Naked Mole Rats

Naked mole rats are small, wrinkly and fascinating mammals that live deep underground in Africa and possess a unique set of survival traits. They can thrive in areas with high levels of carbon dioxide, and little food. They are chemically unable to feel pain and they have a unique gene, which prevents them from getting cancer. In October of 2011 the naked mole rat genome was published. These findings are being used to explore potential health benefits for humans. This human/animal interaction is replicated in my work with robotic mole rat toys and an informational booklet.
